Dr. Nick Caro has been at the forefront of new technologies. He was one of the
first doctors in Chicago to perform LASIK and the center was one FDA test site.
He
also has developed several instruments that are used in performing LASIK.
Dr Caro's current research focuses on a non-invasive method for treating presbyopia,
the type of farsightedness caused by aging. Dr Caro has invented small clips
that
are placed on the white part of the eye to tighten muscles that lose elasticity
during aging.
The clips eliminate the need for reading glasses and may be used
in treating glaucoma. Now in clinical testing, Dr Caro believes when the FDA
approves the clips, they will revolutionize the treatment of presbyopia and glaucoma.
Another important research project of Dr Caro’s is the development of
an intraocular lens. The Caro lens promises to eliminate
the need for laser treatment in post-cataract surgery patients.
