The LASIK Procedure

Corrective eye surgery has changed people’s lives for decades. The first procedure performed was called RK.
However, as a result of new techniques and scientific advances, patients have more options.

Today LASIK (Laser Assisted Intra-
stromal Keratomileusis) is the most commonly performed procedure to
correct nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism.

Prior to LASIK, anesthetic drops are placed on the eyes to numb them. During the procedure, a special instrument creates a flap on the front of the cornea and the Nidek laser reshapes the interior of the cornea. Then the flap is folded back into position. The whole procedure takes just a few minutes. Most patients see a 75% to 95% improvement in their vision the following day.
